• Smoking / vaporizing Mitragyna speciosa Kratom

Kratom can be smoked, but this is less recommended, as it is less effective than oral consumption, and slightly more complex.

Indeed, the amount of leaf that constitutes a typical Kratom dose is too large to be smoked easily. This implies that smoking Kratom products has little real advantage over chewing or making a tea- not to mention the potential health issues linked with smoking any burning plant material.

Yet this is partially true, as different routes of intake can often highlight different effects, through their different modes of action. Pure Kratom alkaloid’s reaction to vaporizing is known to be different, which might very well induce different effects.

Furthermore some users enjoy effects of smoked Mitragyna speciosa Kratom, for their nature or as a complement to oral Kratom, smoking or vaporising Mitragyna speciosa Kratom products while also drinking Kratom tea, which might enhance the experience- or smoking Kratom in combination with cannabis, which is said to be a good synergetic combination.

If one becomes interested in smoking Mitragyna speciosa Kratom, it is much more recommended to use Kratom resinous extracts, rather than plain leaves, and to vaporize the Kratom extract, rather than to burn the product on an open flame and smoke it directly.

Vaporising Mitragyna speciosa Kratom extracts seem promising, adding a little variety to the potential spectrum of Kratom effects. A report mentions good effects by macerating Mitragyna speciosa Kratom leaves in high grade alcohol, then heating and evaporating the alcohol, repeating this boiling and filtering procedure a few times. The alcohol is finally evaporated, and the resin like extract spread on Kratom leaves, or vaporised directly.

Commercial vaporizers, like the kinds used for cannabis, can be used for smoking Kratom. Another option is to use pipes intended for traditional opium “smoking”, which are really vaporising pipes, the key being to avoid exposing the Kratom resin to a direct flame.

Effects of smoked Kratom are said to come on fast (faster than oral Kratom), more “stoned” and “buzz” like than fully developed. They are also said to differ from oral Mitragyna speciosa Kratom by being more focused on the head than on the body, and shorter lasting (an hour or so).

It has been suggested that the difference in effects between oral and smoked Kratom might come from the fact that the 7-hydroxymitragynine alkaloid vaporizes, but not mitragynine, which apparently burns before reaching the vaporisation point.

Vaporising Mitragyna speciosa Kratom methods are interesting, and worth looking into, yet one should keep in mind that effects will be milder, preparation more time consuming and less fool-proof than oral Kratom consumption.
